Rheumatology deals with inflammation anywhere in the body (kidneys, lungs, brain, and nerves or even eyes) as well as disorders of joints and bones, arthritis, connective tissue disease, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and ankylosing spondylitis are some of the common rheumatological disorders. The OMI Rheumatology Service concentrates on providing care to patients affected by a variety of common and uncommon rheumatic diseases including musculoskeletal disorders.

The following conditions are dealt with routinely:

  • Soft tissue problems as in rotator cuff tendinosis/tendinitis, hip bursitis
  • Heel pain, foot, and ankle pain
  • Chronic pain syndrome and fibromyalgia
  • Psoriasis related arthritis. (psoriatic arthritis)
  • Gout
  • High uric acid treatment.
  • Vitamin D related bone problems (osteomalacia)
  • Osteoarthritis of knees
  • Osteoporosis
  • Shoulder pain
  • Neck and back pain
  • SLE (lupus)

In addition, intra-articular injections of glucocorticoids/viscous agents are administered for pain relief in degenerative and painful joint and tendon conditions.
